High Court Advocate Katerina Handa Launches Campaign for LSK Female Representative to the Judicial Service Commission
Advocate E. Katerina Handa has officially entered the race for the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) female representative seat to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). Running on a platform centered on integrity, transparency, and accountability, Handa aims to bridge the gap between practicing lawyers and the administration of justice.
High Court Advocate Ekaterina Handa
A Strong Track Record in Practice & Leadership
Admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 2007, Handa brings nearly two decades of legal expertise across practice, academia, and alternative dispute resolution.
•Legal Practice: Partner at Gitonga, Kinyanjui & Co. Advocates.
Academia & Dispute Resolution: Legal scholar, lecturer, and certified mediator and arbitrator.
•LSK Engagement: Active member across key structures, including the Commercial Practice, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and Editorial Committees.
Her deep involvement in these committees has given her direct insight into the everyday operational hurdles advocates face, from persistent court delays to registry inefficiencies.
"I have seen what lawyers go through, particularly when they interact with the Judiciary through practice and professional committees," Handa noted, emphasizing that LSK’s nearly 28,000 members require robust and responsive representation on the Commission.
Key Priorities for the JSC Agenda
If elected, Handa plans to focus on structural reforms to strengthen judicial accountability and support practitioners:
•Transparent Judicial Recruitment: Pushing for explicit shortlisting criteria and structured, detailed feedback for unsuccessful judicial candidates to encourage professional growth and fair absorption into the bench.
•Direct Member Engagement: Creating regular, formal channels for LSK members to voice concerns directly to the JSC.
•Judicial Efficiency: Addressing systemic bottlenecks, registry delays, and backlog issues to streamline practice for advocates nationwide.
Handa remains committed to fostering an independent, modern Judiciary that remains accessible to the legal fraternity and accountable to the public.
